Until today cutlery made of pure silver has been regarded as something very special. As pure silver is very soft and not dimensionally stable, copper is added for hardening. All silverware pieces are labelled with a stamp figure indicating the fineness of pure silver. 800 or 925 means that in relation to 1000 gram there are 800 or 925 gram of pure silver contained in the alloy. 925-silver is called sterling silver. For tempering and hardening the surface, all WMF pure silver cutleries have been hard silver-plated in addition WMF pure silver cutleries are identified by four stamps: manufacturer’s brand, half-moon as the symbol for silver, crown as the emblem for the authority, and fineness of pure silver.
